Pollinating insects play a vital role in our environment, ensuring that many of our crops and wild plants are able to set seed and produce fruit. We need to know how pollinator populations are changing, and with your help we are gathering data on a wide range of flower-visiting insects. It takes just 10 minutes to complete!

CFE is thrilled to announce the return of the
Environmental Seed Mixes, kindly subsidised by Syngenta.

Syngenta provides a range of great offers for growers to purchase bespoke environmental seed mixtures to support wildlife on farm - at 20% discount. The offers work in partnership with the CFE, ASDA and Kings.

CFE visited Rothamsted Research in Harpenden to attend the end of programme event for ASSIST - Achieving Sustainable Agricultural Systems.

ASSIST has been a collaborative project over the last 6 years to address challenges faced by the farming sector in balancing food production and the environment. This project has included not only scientific researchers but also farmers who have trialled alternative approaches on their land to gain information on how these ideas work in the real world.

Researchers at Bangor University are looking for participants in a study investigating how personality influences attitudes and behaviours towards the environment.

You are eligible to take part in this study if you are aged 18+ and all participants will be entered into a prize draw to win £100 at the end of the study.

If you choose to take part, you will be asked to give approximately 20 minutes of your time to complete an online survey that includes reading the participant information sheet, completing a consent form and demographic survey, and completing a survey about your personality and environmental attitudes.

The Bees Needs Awards for 2021 have been announces on the Defra website. With help from the Nature Friendly Farming Network and CFE, it was a difficult task to pick out a clear winner after seeing the hard work and effort that has gone into supporting bees and pollinators. A congratulations to all the winners and special mentions from the awards.

Farmers play a vital role in managing our iconic countryside and landscapes, including our trees and hedgerows. Tree planting offers many benefits to the environment including capturing carbon, enhancing biodiversity and helping to deliver on the UK’s net zero ambition. Defra has confirmed its plans to launch the SFI (Sustainable Farming Incentive) in the summer of 2022. Here we take a look at what we know right now.

The SFI aims to support farmers to build the health and fertility of their soil and to reduce soil erosion. Both are essential for sustainable food production, helping to bolster food security and the longer term resilience of the sector.
