This month the NFU launched its environment report, ‘United by our environment, our food, our future’. Mark Pope, NFU environment forum chairman highlighted the positive work farmers are doing to maintain the environment and said farm businesses need to be profitable in order to improve this work further.
NFU President Minette Batters is quoted in the latest issue of BBC Countryfile magazine as part of a feature asking influential figures in food, farming and rural affairs, for their forecasts as to how 2019 will play out. Minette says “the industry looks to a future where the production of safe, traceable and affordable food goes hand-in-hand with caring for the environment, and where farm businesses can flourish in a new trading environment.”
The news agenda over the past few weeks has been very much focussed around the recent Brexit developments and Theresa May’s campaign to sell her Brexit deal to Parliament. During a busy week which included the postponement of the meaningful vote, a vote of no confidence and the EU summit, the NFU has produced a Bitesized Brexit podcast featuring NFU President Minette Batters where she outlines the necessity of reaching a trade deal with the EU and avoiding a no-deal scenario.
