TIME TO GET TO KNOW YOUR MP

Food and farming is arguably the most affected sector by Brexit. That's why our Back British Farming messages are more important than ever as we navigate our way through Brexit. It’s really important we ensure MPs know how important it is to ensure British farmers can continue to produce safe, traceable, affordable food to high standards. Our MPs provide us with a voice in Westminster, so make sure they’re informed about the subjects that matter to you.

FOOD AND FARMING IN THE NEWS

The subject of availability of seasonal workers to harvest crops this season was highlighted by the NFU’s Horticulture Board chair Ali Capper on the Sunday Politics show and was also picked up by the BBC’s rural affairs correspondent, with a special feature from Romania interviewing seasonal agricultural workers.

To celebrate World Milk Day (June 1) the NFU teamed up with Herefordshire dairy Farmer Andy Bevan to stage an under 9s football tournament to highlight the importance of dairy as part of a balanced diet, talking to players about why dairy is such an important part of their training routine.

Hundreds of farmers opened their farm gates last weekend for Open Farm Sunday, with visitor numbers exceeding 270,000. Among the visitors was Michel Gove, Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs who told the BBC that he wants the new agricultural policy to focus on productivity and reward environmental work.
